World-famous architect will give Barcelona's world-famous stadium a Gaudí-inspired facelift.
Barcelona FC home stadium, the
Camp Nou, is to be given a €250m face-lift by the award-winning
UK architect Lord Foster. The announcement was made as part of the stadium's 50th anniversary celebrations in september 2007.

The iconic stadium has been graced by some of the greatest names in world football, from current Barca players like
Ronaldinho and
Messi to superstars of the past such as Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona.
As part of the redesign, the stadium's capacity will be increased from
98,000 to 106,000. The stadium will be given an outer shell composed of
multi-coloured tiles, to reflect the style of
Antoni Gaudí,
a prominent local architect whose turn-of-the-century work can be seen
all over the city. The tiles will be able to change colour and could
even be used as a giant television screen.
Construction of the new Camp Nou work will begin in 2009 and
is due to be completed by the start of the 2011-2012 season. Because the work is mostly cosmetic no fixtures will be affected.
